Launched in January this year, MITHI aims to ensure consistency of ICT platforms between agencies. “Standalone systems and restricted-access databases that stifle synergies between agencies are a thing of the past”, declared Mario Montejo, Secretary of Department of Science and Technology, one of the agencies overseeing MITHI.
Speaking at the first Plenary Conference of MITHI, Montejo emphasised the prevalence of incompatible systems and limited access databases in government, and the need for the government to match the citizens’ advanced use of ICT.
All government departments and agencies have been asked to submit an inventory of their ICT-related programmes and resources, including ongoing and proposed projects.
“Although our departments and agencies have long been equipped with ICT systems to enhance the efficiency of their work, the functions of these systems continue to be disparate and loosely integrated across the bureaucracy”, said Florencio Abad, Budget and Management Secretary. DBM is another agency overseeing MITHI.
The initiative is one of the major steps involved in the development of a strategic, three-year e-Government Master Plan.
MITHI will help agencies maximise the use of available ICT resources by increasing collaboration and sharing, and thus, allow organisations to improve the delivery of services to the public through an enhanced ICT capacity.
