Transforming Government since 2001
The Philippine Army strengthened its security capabilities by introducing a new and innovative ID system over the weekend.

Col. Dante Costez, commander of the Army Signal Regiment (ASR), said the new ID system features state-of-the-art technology that encompasses computers, servers, network infrastructure,nd information system that will be controlled and overseen wholly by military personnel.

The ASR, spearheaded by Costez, formulated and designed the new ID system to alleviate the problems presented by the previous ID system.

Initiated in 2006, the development of the system underwent rigorous procedures and studies to ensure its efficiency and convenience.

“The previous ID system was handled by GMP, a private company. The price of P70 is quite expensive and there are also additional costs especially for those soldiers in the field. The data is also passed from one unit to another until it reaches the headquarters, making the process long,” Costez said.

“Under the new system, the data will be owned by the Philippine Army. There will be no involvement of other companies. This new system will also help in updating the Personnel Information System (PIS) of each personnel,” Costez said.

Also, the identification card is free of charge for military personnel and civilian employees. The dependents and reservists will also benefit since the price is reduced to P40.

The application for the new ID system requires all individuals to undertake only four prompt steps: verification, payment, capture, release.

All applicants are required to fill out a form that will be verified by the assigned ASR personnel.

The soldiers, who are in active service, will immediately be directed to the next step to get their biometric while the reservists, dependents, and civilian employees will have to pay first. After the necessary data are acquired, the IDs will be ready for release.
