Transforming Government since 2001
The new Information and Communication Technology Office (ICTO) under the Department of Science and Technology (DoST) will be working for the full implementation of the newly crafted Philippine Digital Strategy (PDS), which is aimed at developing and harnessing the government’s electronic capability, making Internet cost affordable to the public, and strengthening the ICT sector.

Science and Technology Secretary Mario Montejo said the full implementation of the strategy is bound to happen, with the ICTO dealing with it through scientific approach.

He said PDS will be adopted by ICTO considering its workability and practicability for the country’s digital empowerment.

“It is an impressive body of work and we support the many that were involved in its creation,” the DoST chief said.

The strategy drew on expertise and insight from a wide range of government, private sector and civil society stakeholders through an inclusive, participatory and consultative development process. “We want to capitalize on their important contributions and knowledge,” Montejo said.

The PDS was developed over a nine-month period and is expected guide social and economic development in the Philippines by more fully harnessing the catalytic properties ICTs offer the development process. The ultimate goal is a stronger society with empowered Filipinos at its helm.

“At the core, the strategy (is grounded on) four strategic thrusts – E-Government, Internet access for all, digital literacy and ICT sector development,” Montejo said

“Each of these thrusts has a set of objectives for 2016 and a set of corresponding actions that respond to these objectives. It is an ambitious but doable strategy with success hinging on strong cooperation between the different ICT sectors for its implementation,” he added.
