Transforming Government since 2001
Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Secretary Rosalinda Dimapilis-Baldoz has directed the Professional Regulations Commission (PRC) to fast track the full operationalization of its Internet-based services for professionals and licensure examination applicants to hasten service delivery and eliminate long queues of clients who transact with PRC offices daily.

Baldoz issued the directive to the PRC after the Online Verification of Filipino Professionals (OVFP), which provides for online verification of the status of Filipino professionals, and the Online Renewal Application System (ORAS), which allows online renewal of Professional Identification Cards (PICs), were launched at the close of last year.

"The OVFP and ORAS are components of PRC 24/7 eServices which are intended to protect the integrity of PRC documents and safeguard public health, welfare, and safety against unscrupulous persons posing as professionals to dupe people," she said.

She added that PRC's other web-based services such as the

  1. Online Verification of Rating, which allows examinees to check their rating or grade in any licensure examination through the PRC website;
  2. Online Verification of Eligibility System, which enables government entities to verify records of professionals;
  3. Online Verification of room assignment, which enables examinees to verify their room assignments during licensure tests; Online Verification of Academic Records, which verifies academic records from schools whose graduates are about to take the licensure tests;
  4. Professional Identification Card Availability Verification, which enables professionals to verify the availability of their PRC card; and
  5. regional printing, have been pilot-tested and scheduled for replication at the PRC office in the National Capital Region, which is being besieged daily with long queues of clients.

"I have asked the PRC to fast track the full operationalization of all its e-Services, especially at its NCR office, since the number of professionals and licensure examination applicants usually increases each year. PRC's manpower and office space, however, remain constant," DOLE chief said.

PRC, which is under the supervision of DOLE, regulates the practice of 46 professions. Every year, it processes over 433,000 examination applicants and 350,000 professionals applying for license renewal. It also attends to employers and government and private institutions seeking certifications and verifying licenses of Filipino professionals.

"With full operationalization of PRC 24/7 eServcies, clients will be able to avail of PRC services easily anytime, anywhere, or even within the comfort and convenience of their homes or offices, thereby, hastening PRCs delivery of needed services while decongesting its offices of thousands of professionals and licensure examination applicants who transact with PRC everyday," Baldoz said.

She said that improving the services of PRC will boost efforts in ensuring the employment and competitiveness of Filipino professionals, who are vital to the labor and employment agenda of the Aquino administration. (dole/pia9/c.lanipa)
