Transforming Government since 2001
A system connecting the regional offices of the Philippine Health Insurance Corp. (PhilHealth) to hospitals in order to fast track insurance payments is being eyed by the government under its public-private partnership (PPP) scheme.

At the ongoing PPP conference at the Marriott Hotel in Pasay City, Health Undersecretary Teodoro J. Herbosa said the PhilHealth e-Health Project will cost about P200 million and should be ready for bidding in the second quarter of next year.

The plan is to connect accredited hospitals with regional PhilHealth offices, which in turn, will be connected to the main database at the PhilHealth headquarters in Manila.

Mr. Herbosa said the project will cut the processing time of insurance payments to hospitals -- presently three to six months -- by half.

A project framework has been drafted by Health department officials consulting with experts from the World Health Organization and the National Computer Center.

PhilHealth, the natural health insurer, has 16 regional offices and 20 million members nationwide.
