Binay was keynote speaker at the closing ceremonies for the second EGOV4MD Forum and General Assembly at the Asian Development Bank (ADB) headquarters in Pasig City. The event was organized by the League of Municipalities of the Philippines and the Mayors Development Center, Inc.
Citing Makati City where he was mayor for six terms before he became Vice President, Binay said investments on information and communications technology (ICT) had improved internal operations, revenue collection, and service delivery.
“E-governance was the cornerstone of our local government development strategy. By installing close circuit television in heavily congested areas, we were able to manage the traffic better and reduce the incidence of crime in those areas. By supplying our various offices, schools and community halls with Internet-enabled computers, we empowered young and old alike. We gave them free access to government services and made them, in turn, more responsive to all issuances, programs and policies of government,” Binay said.
