"The use of ICT is imperative to government's vision of promoting efficiency and transparency," this she said after claiming ICT as one of the developing industries in the region.
NEDA sees that an ICT-competent government can offer innovative and efficient online services that respond to the needs of Filipinos worldwide.
One strategy to realize this is for the government and its partners to continue to enhance the high-bandwidth networks. Also, a new network paradigm is needed to facilitate the delivery of high-capacity information and communication services.
NEDA sees the need for these developments as Davao has been considered among the new wave cities identified as viable location for the offshore and outsourcing industry and included in the Cyber Corridor, one of the priority programs of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.
ICT in the region is now considered one of the fastest growing sectors and has provided substantial employment to about 7,000 persons in 2009 and is expected to employ 9,700 more persons in 2010.
The sector remarkably grew by 78 percent in 2009 compared to its performance in 2008 and it is expected to sustain growth by 76 percent this year.
It is also projected that contact centers in the region will continue to be the most dominant form of BPO service while the non-voice will experience steady double digit growth in the number of centers.
