PWA is a recognition body for the best Philippine websites. Finalists and winners draw approval among their peers, which often becomes web developers' leverage for better information technology career opportunities.
OSIST is a web portal developed to meet growing demand for easier and faster access to information on technologies developed by research and development institutes under the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), the academe, and other partner organizations.
PCIERD, a DOST agency provides details through OSIST on 280 products, services, and processes along with the researchers and other experts behind each technology.
The list covers agriculture, energy, food, health, pharmaceuticals and medical products, aquatic and marine, disaster management, equipment and devices, handicraft, and textiles. It also features an e-payment system for easy payment on technology information.
PWA selections are based on criteria such as appropriateness of contents, design, usability, and functionality.
Aside from the major awards, 79 out of hundreds of hopefuls will automatically vie for the Peoples Choice Awards, which are determined through the number of text and online votes received during the competition.
The PWA awarding program is set Feb. 27 at RCBC Tower's Carlos P. Romulo Auditorium in Makati City.
To vote via SMS, type WEBBYS space VOTE space CandidateID (OSIST candidate ID is 39) and send to 2973 for Globe and Touch Mobile, and 2955 for Smart and Talk N Text.
For online voters, register at www.philippinewebawards.com/pages/register.asp and click on the vote for a site link at the "members lounge" page.
