Based on the agreement, the Zamboanga City Library under Emilia Natividad has been selected as one public library to host the Kiosk of the Philippine eLib project initiated by the National Library.
In view of the project, the city library will also be one of the only three public libraries in the country that will receive a set of Science and Technology encyclopedia worth P240,000.
The city library, as a kiosk, has been provided with computers dedicated to provide access to the bibliographic resources and digitized Filipiniana materials of the various institutions and full text electronic foreign journals to students, teachers, professionals and all members of the community, according to Prudencia Cruz, National Library Director IV and project manager of the Philippine eLib.
Mayor Lobregat thanked the National Library of the Philippines for considering the city library as a recipient of the project which he described to be a "welcome undertaking that will benefit our young people, even the not so young ones, because information is vital to the future of our youth".
Lobregat said the city library goes up a notch higher with its inclusion in the Philippine eLib project.
The institutions involved in the Philippine eLib project include the Department of Agriculture, Department of Science and Technology, Commission on Higher Education, the National Library and the University of the Philippines.
Cruz said the city library is one of the only three libraries in the country that is a recipient of a set of Science and Technology encyclopedia, which is an add on in the Philippine eLib project. The other two are the Congressional Library and the Provincial Library.
