Transforming Government since 2001
The Commission on Information and Communications Technology (CICT) recently received 9.92 million Canadian dollars (420 million pesos) from the Canadian government for a five-year e-governance project.

The Electronic Governance for Efficiency and Effectiveness (E3) is the Canadian government's first foray into IT-related governance in the Philippines. It will be represented by the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA).

The project aims to use technology as a means to deliver services to rural areas. It will have a two-way approach, first in e-governance and also for private sector assistance.

Canadian Embassy Counselor and Head of Aid Tom Carroll told reporters that among the possible aspects that the E3 could be involved in include credit assistance, health, employment, education, microfinance, disaster relief and agriculture.

Carroll said they have not exactly identified any specific e-governance project that will use the 420-million-peso budget but said CIDA is already in the process of coming up with a work plan with the CICT to identify priority e-governance projects, the amount to be spent and the sustainability plan to ensure that these projects deliver their goals and continue for the long-term.
