Transforming Government since 2001
Information Technology (IT) has come to the grassroot level.

Every villages in Bulacan province will now have access to the internet as the provincial government goes hi-tech in extending E-governance in all its barangays.

Provincial Board Member JonJon Mendoza, president of the Liga ng mga Barangay–Bulacan Chapter, said the "Barangay Online Program" aims to bring down to the grassroot level modern and vital information communication technologies (ICTs), such as computer with internet access so that barangay officials and residents can receive the benefits brought by this new technology.

He cited as an example the Bulacan’s official website as a source of information ranging from job opportunities, socio-economic profile, downloadable forms for business, among others.

Mendoza said one computer unit would be given to every barangay. The province has tied up with Smart Communications and PLDT for the equipment and wireless broadband internet connection, which the barangays will get for free for one year.

“We are very grateful to Governor Josefina Mendoza-dela Cruz for initiating and supporting Barangay Online. Through this program, people in the barangays can be the Bagong Bulakenyos who can draw on the benefits of modern information technology to be globally competitive," he said.

Mendoza said computers have been distributed to 17 pilot barangays here including barangays Pungo, Iba O' Este, Sta. Lucia in Calumpit, Mojon, Sto. Rosario, Dakila in Malolos, Sta. Barbara, Bagong Nayon, Sabang in Baliuag, Encanto, Sulucan, Pulong Yantok in Angat, Turo and Taal in Bocaue and Panghulo, Paliwas, Paco in Obando.

These barangays have attended the IT Capability Program of the Liga ng mga Barangay as one of the requirements in the program.

The barangay captains will serve as the administrator of the program.

Mendoza said the Liga plans to cover about 30 barangays this year and complete the entire 569 barangays next year.

The Barangay Online is also a component-program of the Barangay Communication Network launched early this year to bring the provincial government closer to the barangays through information technology.
