The scheme called Rural Information Technology Centers (RITC), commenced at the weekend with the commissioning of the first one for the Nasarawa community in Nasarawa State.
The centre is designed to provide seamless access to information over the internet, as well as training in computer use for the people of Nasarawa Local Government and adjourning communities.

Nigeria’s Accountant General of the Federation, Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo said the introduction of e-payment is aimed at eliminating payment bureaucracy associated with handling cash transfers and check payments. Dankwambo also noted that this development will strengthen the efficiency of doing business with the government and also help to check corruption.
Speaking on the e-payment directive given by the Federal Government to all the Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to henceforth pay all contractors and staff salaries through e-payment using banks, Agu said government needs to establish an e-invoicing portal to monitor compliance.

It would be recalled that FG had in the last quarter of last year made it mandatory that payments to personnel and contractors would from January 2009, be made electronically, according to the Accountant General of the Federation.
