The company rolled out its 5G network in January in downtown Ottawa, Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver.
Rogers Communications has announced it is expanding its 5G wireless network to 26 cities and towns in B.C., and more than 50 in Canada.
Rogers 5G network, powered by Ericsson, is expected to be in more than 60 markets in Canada by the end of the year, the company said in a news release Tuesday.
The company rolled out its 5G network in January in downtown Ottawa, Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver.
Here are the markets in B.C. that will now have access to Roger’s 5G:

“5G represents a massive technological transformation that will change the way British Columbians live and work,” said Rick Sellers, president of B.C. region, Rogers Communications, in a statement.
The company says more than two million Canadians are now on Rogers Infinite unlimited data plans.
In B.C., Rogers launched Canada’s first 5G smart city pilot earlier this year in Kelowna and at UBC, making it the first university campus to have 5G wireless technology.
Last year, Rogers announced a multimillion-dollar partnership with UBC to fund academic research into 5G applications and applied sciences designed for Canada’s unique needs.
The goal was to study 5G applications, such as monitoring cars and traffic to develop smarter and safer cities. Other research interests included autonomous vehicles, machine learning, artificial intelligence and network slicing technology for use in robotics, farming and medical applications. The partnership will also develop skills in computer science, applied mathematics, machine learning and software development.
Provincial Minister of Citizens’ Services Anne Kang says the expansion of Rogers’ 5G network will revolutionize the way people live, work, learn, play and interact with each other.
“Giving people access to 5G technology will help them take full advantage of the digital economy and allow our economy, businesses and communities to grow and thrive,” said Kang in a statement.
Experts predict 5G can connect 500 times the number of devices compared to the current cellphone standard, 4G, allowing one million connected devices for every square city kilometre.
