The province is asking for people's input on whether they would like access to some of their own electronic health records.

eHealth Saskatchewan is asking people to participate in a survey on their website.

"This survey will help us determine what's important to Saskatchewan residents and if they even desire things like access to their own medical test results, for example," said Susan Antosh, eHealth Saskatchewan CEO, in a press release.

Eventually Saskatchewan wants to have an electronic record for every person in the province that will hold all their past medical information.

This would allow people and health providers to access test results, past treatments and medication use online.

There are already several electronic programs that allow doctors to access some patient information including x-rays, ultasounds and mammography from anywhere in the province.

The Pharmacy Information Program also allows pharmacists to access information about prescriptions, as well as the Lab Result Repository, which gives health providers access to lab test results for patients.

The province said input from the surveys will help in designing the new electronic health record system.

The survey will be online until Sept. 7.
