The computerized system of patient records is being funded by eHealth Ontario, the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care and the community health centres.
Greg Reed, the CEO of eHealth Ontario, made the announcement March 7 at the Centre de santé communautaire du Grand Sudbury, one of two community health centres serving the Sudbury region.
He would not give a ballpark figure for how much the electronic medical record system will cost because it's going out to tender soon.
Reed said it's hoped that the system will be installed in the community health centres starting this fall.
“We are very pleased to be aligned with the province's eHealth strategy,” Adrianna Tetley, the Association of Ontario Health Centre's executive director, said in a press release.
“This is a major step forward and will ultimately enable community health centres' interprofessional teams to share information with labs, hospitals and the rest of the health care system so that clients receive even higher quality care.”
Community health centres are health care institutions where nurses, doctors and other health care providers administer services that address individual and family health needs.
