The redesigned site, offering information on the Government of Canada, the country and new Government-of-Canada initiatives, was launched in early April in direct response to the federal government's desire to connect with as many Canadians as possible and make government more accessible.
The Canada site home page has changed to make it easier for Canadians to find more of the information they need and keep them informed about current news and events involving the Government of Canada. The most popular sections of the Canada site are:
- Departments and Agencies;
- The A-Z Index;
- Government Contacts;
- About Government;
- About Canada; and
- On-line Forms and Services.
The site, more user-friendly thanks to a better use of space and improved layout, also features links to popular services, a news section and a Canadian fact and trivia corner. There are also helpful links to the Service Canada, Business Canada and Canada International Web sites.
The Canada site has been in existence since 1995. The last significant change was in 2001 when the Services for Canadians, Services for Non-Canadians and Services for Business links were introduced. Other changes made to the Canada site home page over the years include the addition of the Wireless Portal (wap.gc.ca) and My Government Account.
No wonder Canada has been ranked first out of 22 countries for five consecutive years for having the best "customer service in e-government" according to surveys conducted by Accenture, a global management consulting and technology services company.
It's a wired world and it's impossible to get your wires crossed on this site. The site is comprehensive, easy to use, user-friendly and most important, functional. Check it out at www.canada.gc.ca.
