Korea will develop its system of e-government for foreigners (G4F) by 2007, due to the growing number of foreign residents in Korea.

"The e-government project, launched in 2001, will be expanded for foreign residents in order to help them in their daily and working lives,’’ an official of the Ministry of Commerce, Energy and Industry (MOCIE) said Thursday. The G4F project includes the construction of an online support system for foreign businesses and online administration services for foreign residents.

The government will inject 9.9 billion won into the project by 2007.

Demand for the project has been growing, as the number of short-, mid- and long-term foreign residents in Korea has reached 656,380, with the number of foreign entries and departures amounting to 7,676,324 last year.

The move comes after requests for improved administrative services for foreign residents, the ministry said.

The government expects the G4F project to bring benefits in such areas as attracting foreign direct investment and entry-departure management, it added.
