South Korea has been voted to have the best “e-government” in a survey conducted by the United Nations, the South Korean government said Thursday.

The U.N. E-Government Survey, a biannual assessment of all 192 member states' government web infrastructure, rated the South Korean government's comprehensive online infrastructure as the best in the world, after giving the top rank in the government's website level and user involvement level.

The results were encouraging to South Korea as it wiped out concerns of the government taking less care of the Information Technology (IT) sector, and provided momentum for them to lead the global e-government business, while it could potentially accelerate the local companies' expansion into overseas markets, the Ministry of Public Administration and Security said in a press release.

The U.N. Department of Economic and Social Affairs is in charge of this survey, which was first launched in 2002 to evaluate each U.N. member states' government web operation levels.
