Al Busaidi said the licence to use the system would be given only to centres run by Omanis. "These centres should entirely be staffed by Omanis," he added. The idea was to create jobs for the young nationals.
According to a study 60 per cent of Omani nationals are under the age of 20. The undersecretary said the new system would save time and effort and speed up issuing labour cards.
The new form would help overcome errors as the data will be printed electronically.
The system, introduced in the capital area, will soon be installed in other regions as well. Al Busaidi said the old forms would continue to be used until the end of this year.
He said the smart form would cost 1.800 riyals. He said big companies could fill the forms at their offices after obtaining the ministry's approval and installing the software.
Al Busaidi said other electronic systems will be introduced in the future to make services more accessible to citizens and the private sector, as part of the government's drive towards e-government.
