Transforming Government since 2001
The Ministry of Health is to have an e-health portal that is expected to be a one-stop access point information and services of the ministry.

An agreement to design and implement the portal was signed recently by the Information Technology Authority (ITA) and the ministry with ICT Health, an Oman-based software development company, according to ITA officials.

Ministry of Health planning affairs undersecretary HE Dr Ali Talib Al Hinai and ITA CEO Salim Sultan Al Ruzaiqi signed the agreement with ICT Health vice-chairman Fareed Al Hinai on the ITA premises in Knowledge Oasis Muscat.

ICT Health, in collaboration with Sweden-based Monator Technologies AB, would design and implement the portal. “The primary aim of ITA and Ministry of Health to launch the portal is to provide services and quality healthcare for all citizens and residents,” said Al Hinai.

The portal would provide comprehensive and up-to-date information of the ministry’s announcements, services and special features as also that of its affiliated organisations.

“We want the portal to serve as a model for all government entities through empowering users with a range of quality of e-services and also mobile ones like appointment scheduling, pre-employment health checkup, blood bank-related services, registering of pharmacies, clinics and hospitals, online patient records etc,” he added.

Al Ruzaiqi said it was an important agreement for ITA and another breakthrough toward e-Oman national strategy and e-government transformation plan.

“As well-known, the quality of e-health services is a key evaluation criterion to measure how nations are progressing and advancing in the field of ICT,” he added.
