The Sultanate of Oman have been awarded seven important awards at the 3rd GCC e-Government Award, Conference and Exhibition hosted by Shaikh Majid bin Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum at the Inter-Continental Hotel, Dubai.

The GCC e-awards, which features nine categories, subjects applicants for the awards to rigorous reviews by a jury committee, comprised of a number of e-government experts and specialists.

The Sultanate’s delegation to the conference, led by Dr. Salim bin Sultan al-Ruzaiqi, CEO of the Information Technology Authority (ITA) also included a number of representatives of Oman’s various public organizations.

Awards were granted to the One Stop Shop (OSS) of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry who won best Government-to-Government Shared Service, the ITA for the ‘ITA e-Inclusion Project’ and the Public Authority for Consumer Protection for its website.

Second place awards were also given to the Ministry of Interior for best e-services provided to individuals, the Ministry of Manpower’s ‘electronic registration’ project for best e-integrated service, The Muscat Municipality for Best Government e-Participation Initiative and the Higher Education Admission Centre at the Ministry of Higher Education for best e-government shared service.

Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdullah al Qatabi, Oman’s Ambassador the UAE commented that the public organizations of the Sultanate were very proud of winning so many awards, since it “reflects the size of the achievement made in the field of moving towards e-government.”

Oman’s success at the GCC e-awards is anticipated to encourage the progression of government e-projects, motivating the various departments to continue in their endeavours to provide consumers with better services.
