On hand to receive the Lithuanian delegation was Dr Salim Sultan Al Ruzaiqi, chief executive officer of ITA alongwith Yaqoob Al Balushi, the deputy CEO of Infrastructure and eServices, and Omar Al Shanfari, the deputy CEO of Operations.
During the official visit, the delegation was briefed on the role of ITA, the e.oman strategy and its role in executing the national strategy for Oman's Digital Society and eGovernment.
A special focus was placed on the three strategic pillars: Society and human capital development, enhance eGovernment and eServices, and enable the ICT industry. Some of the e.oman achievements highlighted included the official eGovernment services portal, human capacity building successes and Oman's global ranking.
The Lithuanian delegation then toured Oman's National CERT and was apprised of the role played by the centre to protect the security of information in the Sultanate. The CERT aims to analyse and treat information security incidents on the internet, enhance information security awareness and culture in the community, whether individuals or institutions, and ultimately help build confidence in the use of eGovernment services on the internet.
Notably, OCERT has been designated as the Arab Regional Cyber Security Centre, in cooperation with both the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and the organisation of IMPACT (The International Multilateral Partnership Against Cyber Threat), and works also to ensure the protection of security for the Arab countries under its mandate.
The last stop on the agenda included a delegation visit to the Sas Programme and Centre for entrepreneurship.
The Sas Programme is designed to provide the foundation for creating a new and vibrant ICT industry, thereby fostering an entrepreneurial spirit in the ICT sector in Oman.
Targeting small and medium ICT businesses, students, and jobseekers of any age interested in starting a business, the Sas Programme seeks to develop an internationally competitive ICT industry in Oman, attract more foreign and local investment in the ICT sector, encourage and support innovation by contributing to new technologies.
