The financial budget for 2014 and its various aspects were the main focus of the meeting. The board finalised the budget and directed that it be sent to the Ministry of Finance for final approval.
The board also discussed the government e-cloud project and subsequent infrastructure. The e-cloud project aims to provide a special cloud-platform service for all government institutions. Through the cloud, the ITA will be able to offer government e-services, including e-mail services and provide common shared systems and databases, which will help to lower the costs of current government services. The board decided to launch the project in the next few months.
The board, according to a press release, accepted the recommendation of judges of the Sultan Qaboos Award for Excellence in eGovernment, who proposed that the award be given every two years, instead of annually. This will allow enough time for all participating institutions to improve upon their ideas. Accordingly, the award will be presented for the fourth time in 2014.
The board also acknowledged the recent UN Awards for Public Service 2013 held in Bahrain, which fetched the sultanate awards in two categories. The State Audit Institution won first place in the category of 'Preventing and Combating Corruption in Public Services' for its 'Complaints Window' project, while the Ministry of Regional Municipalities And Water Resources won first place in the category of 'Improving Public Services' for its 'Injaz Hall' project.
