Omanuna, the single-window for the e-government services has been a hit among both the locals and expatriates alike for their day-to-day transactions involving any of the government departments.

A number of people has been visiting the portal regularly and making use of the various services provided by the site which is powered by the ITA (Information Technology Authority). In January 2013 alone, 70,459 people visited the portal resulting in transactions through the e-payment gateway worth RO 467,856. These figures were 25,830 and 371,143 respectively in June 2012, according to the statistics provided by the ITA.

As many as 12,884 transactions took place through the portal while it was 9,297 in June last year.

“Omanuna provides a wide range of services for citizens, residents, visitors, businesses and government offices. It provides a single sign-on to the portal services and people can complete their transactions safely, since it checks the user's identity card number, mobile number and finger print”, says Salim al Shuaili, Senior Team Leader- Web Content, ITA.

The portal which is the gateway to services and information from the government in the Sultanate of Oman that helps to access to services you can use electronically has a plethora of sectors and departments onboard. Some of them include Capital Market Authority, Civil Service Employees Pension Fund, Dhofar Municipality, Electricity Holding Company (SAOC), ITA, Majlis Ash’ Shura, Ministry of Legal Affairs, Ministry of Tourism, Ministry of Transport and Communications, Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Civil Service, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs, Ministry of Environment and Climatic Affairs, to name a few.

“This portal is a one-shop destination for all your needs about the Sultanate of Oman and will give you information about where and how to get other services, such as SMS services or forms you can download. This portal has been designed with you the user and your need in mind and navigating this portal is made easier based on your profile and needs”, he added.

The services in the portal have been classified and categorised and the user can approach the services in many ways. The four categories on the portal are Citizen and Residents, Business, Visitors, and Governments. “Additionally, the portal has been enhanced to meet international standards, UN standards and has implemented the requirements for accessibility, thereby making Omanuna accessible for all. The Text-to-Speech feature has been implemented for blind users to enable them to easily use the portal.

“Also, the number of eServices are increasing day-by-day, but the user can use and benefit from the multitude of informative services already available”, Salim al Shuaili further said.
