The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MCI) inaugurated today at A'Seeb's City Centre the first package of online services for one-stop e-Government in implementation of the e-government initiative in the Sultanate.

Eng. Ali bin Masoud al-Sunaidi, Minister of Commerce and Industry, who patronized over the inauguration ceremony said that the first package is designed to provide self-service that enables the persons complete their applications anywhere through registration on the machines provided by Information Technology Authority(ITA) and deployed in a number of commercial centres in the governorates of the Sultanate, adding that the first package includes four services (inquiry about the application, search for trade names, booking a trade name and renewal of trade name).

He added in a statement to reporters that these services are part of 20 services which the Ministry seeks to provide to the public as a Ministry team, which includes experts from the Republic of Estonia in cooperation with the ITA, tries to reach the stage where a person does not need to go to the one-stop station at the Ministry to renew commercial registration or to merge activity in the record, expressing the hope that in the coming period a new package will be provided every three months.

The Minister of Commerce and industry said that the ministry will gradually stop in dealing with people directly in the first package services in order to identify the problems related to communications or the public reaction and this package will enable the Ministry to find out how keen are the persons in following up their own applications, noting that there are ten days for the promotion of the first package.

Mohammad bin Khalifa al-Badrani Director of Investor Services said in his speech that the first package of online self- services is the second step in the one-stop system, developed by an Estonian company called (Gulf Web Media ), adding that there are two of the four services that do not require a user ID while entering the one-stop site. These two services are the search for brand name and the inquiry about the application. The other services require before activation a user number (PIN) to be obtained from the ITA's self-service machines, adding that there are other services that will be launched in packages in the coming periods and in stages, so that the officials responsible for the project can assess the progress of each stage.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by a number of the Undersecretaries, officials of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry and ITA and a number of Omani businessmen.
