The Royal Oman Police (ROP) on Sunday signed an agreement to implement a new system to issue electronic visas.

The project will provide an efficient system for businessmen, visitors and tourists, and simplify procedures for issuance of visas and residence permits to foreigners. It will ensure easier entry and exit through check points and help sharing of information with respective departments.

The deal was signed on behalf of Information Technology Authority (ITA) by HE Eng. Ali Bin Masoud Al Sunaidy, Commerce and Industry Minister and ITA Board Chairman. It was signed by Lieutenant-General Hassan Bin Mohsin Al Shraiqi, Inspector-General of Police and Customs, on behalf of the ROP. The general manager of the Australian SITA Corporation signed on behalf of the executing company.

The deal is part of the government’s efforts to implement e-Governance, Sunaidysaid. It is expected to benefit the business and tourism sector in the Sultanate.

The signing ceremony was attended by Major General Salim Bin Mussalam Al Qattan, Assistant Inspector-General of Police and Customs, HE Salim Bin Sultan Al Habsi, Undersecretary of the Finance Ministry, Dr Salim Bin Sultan Al Ruzaiqi, ITA Chief Executive Officer, senior officers at ROP, SAF and other security apparatuses.
