Transforming Government since 2001
Comex 2012, which ended here yesterday, gathered 30 governmental entities characterised by their eServices for the community and individuals. One such eService, a new addition to this year's exhibition, witnessed the launching of a new mail posting means provided by Oman Post. Called ePost, it is an innovative, convenient and secure mail system, where everyone can get a virtual ID and receive all his/her mails online.

Digital or printed mail can be received or redirected, whenever or wherever, without fear of losing mail. 2,000 subscriptions, mostly Omanis, were made on the first day of the exhibition which indicates the Omani society's awareness of technology. Susan Moores, Media & Communication Specialist at ITA, says, “the most interesting benefits of it are the FollowMe service, where you can get your mail forwarded or sent to wherever you move. Your ePost ID is for life.

Even if you leave Oman, if you have subscribed to the FollowMe and International FollowMe add on, mail will be redirected to your new address as per your instruction”. Also, there is the convenient notification service. When regular mail arrives for you, you will be notified through your ePost address and can then arrange to collect or redirect the mail as you wish. Holiday Mail is another convenient option which lets you put a hold on your mail while you are away on holiday.

Switch to holiday mode and your mail will be held in ‘Virtual’ mode. When you return, the mail held on ‘Virtual mode’ will be forwarded to your address. There is also a Track & Trace service to help the sender trace his mail.

Oman Post’s ePost is connected to the Sultanate’s e.oman initiative. The Post Office is working with the Information Technology Authority of Oman (ITA) to also enable interaction between individuals, companies and various government departments using e.oman’s ‘Single Sign On’ system, via the Official eGovernment Services Portal (www.oman.om).

While not compulsory to get an ePost ID, it is highly recommended that you do because future government to citizen communications will soon move from printed to digital mail, delivered via Oman ePost. If you do not have an ePost ID you will not receive these.

As well, early joiners will have the option of obtaining ePost ID numbers which are meaningful to them such as birth dates or other personal combinations.

For those that desire their own unique ePost ID, they can purchase a Premium ID. Registration for ePost IDs will be available to all Oman residents, but they can only be ‘activated’ at select ePost enabled Post offices.
