Ali bin Masoud Al Sunaidy, chairman of the ITA board of directors, signed the agreement on behalf of ITA and, Ahmed bin Sulaiman Al Maimani, undersecretary of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry for Administrative and Financial Affairs, signed on behalf of MoCI, in presence of Dr Salim Sultan Al Ruzaiqi, chief executive of ITA at a meeting held in the boardroom of ITA head offices.
Officials from the Ministry of Commerce and Industry and other dignitaries were present on the occasion. The MoCI and ITA jointly said that that Web Media Gulf has been awarded the RO1,200,000 contract to test and fix issues, as well as fine-tune the One-Stop-Shop (OSS) application.
A joint team from MoCI and ITA will be work together with the vendor to carry out these activities and enhance the technology landscape of the OSS application.
On the occasion, Ali bin Masoud Al Sunaidy said: “This agreement will promote cooperation and integration between the Ministry of Commerce and Industry and the Information Technology Authority.
The OSS project will contribute to the provision of services offered by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry in an easy and comfortable manner, via customer support, self-payment kiosks and the Internet.
Digital transformation
This will in turn help to stimulate commercial activity and investment, while enhancing and supporting Oman’s Digital Transformation into a national economy based on knowledge.”
Ahmed bin Sulaiman Al Maimani in a statement said: “This agreement comes as part of a modernisation of programmes designed to keep pace with the steady increase in the number of daily transactions received via the One-Stop-Shop (OSS) application — both at the main building of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry or in the district departments in the governorates and regions across the Sultanate.
Currently, the number of daily transactions averages between 1,200 and 1,500 per day for example in commercial, industrial and mining sectors.
This project will improve the performance of the OSS system in terms of speed and efficiency, and encourage the number of users in existing channels to now make transactions through the OSS system.”
The One-Stop-Shop is a project undertaken by Ministry of Commerce and Industry to provide a single window service to the business community of Oman. The OSS system was one of the first few eGovernment initiatives launched in Oman, with the first phase of the project launched in 2006.
Over years the system’s popularity and user base has fluctuated, but recently the system has been delivering close to 20,000 transactions on a monthly average.
The project aims to develop and improve the work environment for the one-stop-shop system and strengthen the technical capacity, thereby increasing its efficiency, speed and reduce downtime and interruption to system resources.
In an effort to continuously improve the system, and the need for enhancement and management of such a large and critical national eGovernment initiative, the MoCI and the ITA have been working together to select a vendor to improve the scalability, reliability and performance of the One-Stop-Shop application and take it to the next level.
Various discussions were conducted and multiple options were analysed and an RFP was released to contract with a reputable organisation. The team from MoCI and ITA have been working together to evaluate the offerings and select the most suitable vendor, under guidance of management and stakeholders of both organisations.
