Transforming Government since 2001
Consolidating its dominant position in launching innovative technology products and services which spell convenience to customers, BankMuscat, the leading financial services provider in the Sultanate, has taken the lead in rolling out electronic card payment facility for government services offered as part of the Sultanate's e-Governance initiative.

BankMuscat recently signed an agreement with the Ministry of Justice to introduce electronic card payment facility for judicial services rendered at courts and notary public offices across Oman.

Putting in place an effective and secure platform for electronic card payment, the new facility marks a major milestone as all bank cards carrying Visa or MasterCard affiliation can be used as the mode of payment at the ministry establishments.

Commenting on the agreement, AbdulRazak Ali Issa said, "BankMuscat is proud to offer its state-of-the-art card acquiring facility for the Ministry of Justice. The association brings together two leading institutions serving the nation as a family.

The synergy between the two spells convenience to customers and the new facility marks yet another step by the bank to consolidate its dominant position in launching innovative products and services. The card acquiring service reflects the bank's commitment to work closely with government agencies in improving the financial infrastructure in the country."

The chief executive added: "BankMuscat is the first card-acquiring bank to support ITA for electronic payments for goods and services offered by the government.

Feedback positive

The card payment facility at the Royal Oman Police (ROP) directorates, Muscat Municipality, the Ministry of Regional Municipalities and Water Resources, the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Housing and Public Prosecution across the country was introduced by BankMuscat and the feedback from the public on these services has been very positive. Ever since BankMuscat commenced its card acquiring operations in 2002, many milestones have been achieved with the support of partners and customers. At present, BankMuscat is the largest acquirer and issuer of cards in Oman, owing to strong support from partners and customers."

Facilitating electronic card payments for services rendered by various government departments, including the Royal Oman Police (ROP), BankMuscat is the first card-acquiring bank to support the Information Technology Authority spearheading the eOman initiative. Significantly, ROP, the first government body to facilitate card payment service, roped in BankMuscat to roll out card acceptance and electronic payment at ROP directorates across the country.

Marking yet another step, BankMuscat was chosen as a partner to launch e-Purse project, a state-of-the-art 'Cash on Card' solution involving the electronic chip-based National ID card or Resident Card.

Establishing a strong network of government and commercial entities, BankMuscat has deployed over 3500 point of sales (POS) card acquiring terminals across the country to support electronic payment in the country and continues to expand rapidly.

BankMuscat serves the largest banking family in Oman with superior products and services that make a difference in every stage of life.
