Transforming Government since 2001
As part of its efforts to provide the best and fastest Internet services to its subscribers with a view to keeping pace with the digital society and e-government projects, Oman Mobile Telecommunications Company (Oman Mobile) has introduced the fastest speed of 14.4 mb/second of mobile broadband in the Sultanate.

This high-speed was first introduced during the company's participation in the telecommunications and information technology exhibition (Comex 2009).

Oman Mobile achieved great success during the exhibition as shown by the huge number of visitors who flocked to the company's pavilion during the exhibition.

Continuous effort

Ali Kashoub, manager of main services at Oman Mobile, said the company has managed to introduce this high-speed of mobile broadband Internet after strenuous efforts exerted by specialists and officials of the company in order to provide the best and fastest Internet services in the Middle East.

He stressed the fact that Oman Mobile is keen to offer such speed to individuals and corporate subscribers especially after the launch of the 3.5G network and with the spread of the knowledge society in the Sultanate.

Kashoub indicated that Oman Mobile has introduced the fastest mobile broadband Internet to its subscribers and visitors of Comex 2009.

They have experienced such fast speeds during surfing the Internet and downloading programmes and films from websites.

He added that this high rate of mobile Internet speed is a clear indicator of Oman Mobile's commitment to raising the quality and efficiency of the 3.5G network in order to live up to the expectations of its subscribers through the provision of the best services.

He said the company has expanded the coverage of 3.5G network to include several regions of the Sultanate. The network is now available in all parts of Muscat governorate and several cities in Dhofar, the wilayats of Sohar, Barka, Al Sawadi, Sohar Port, the industrial estate in Al Batinah region, Sur, Sinaw, Ja'alan Bani Bu Hassan, Ja'alan Bani Bu Ali in Al Sharqiyah region, and the wilayats of Buraimi, Ibri, Nizwa, Manah, Al Hamraa and Izki.

Kashoub pointed out that this high mobile broadband speed is an unprecedented qualitative leap in telecom, and data download in the local market.

He said increasing the 3.5G speed from 7.2 mb/second to 14.4 mb/second would contribute to the creation of new applications in telecom and information technology sector including mobile video conference, leased wireless circuits and other applications which depend on broadband Internet.

Ali Kashoub concluded by saying that "the 3.5G network would serve all segments of the society including individuals and businesses because it would raise the work standard in these businesses through fast data and information transfer from one location to another as well as saving files in very high speeds".

He added that the 3.5G network enables individuals to make video calls, and download programmes and files in very high speeds compared to the normal Internet.
