The Information Technology Authority (ITA), which is spearheading the campaign, has set up an exclusive pavilion at the Municipality Festival Ground, the main venue of the festival, to enlighten visitors on eOman and other IT related issues.
Through a series of awareness programmes and skill-building workshops, the authority intends to raise public awareness about the secure use of information communication technologies, progress of eOman projects and the benefits they will bring to the community.
The first in several seminars planned by the authority during the festival, on e-commerce, organised in conjunction with the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI), was held on Saturday with Ahmed bin Sulaiman Al Maimani, Under-secretary for Administrative, Financial and State Affairs at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, as the chief guest.
Other topics to be dealt with in the coming days will cover the e-government projects of ITA, eLearning, digital society development, ePayment gateway, e-Law and online security.
“ITA’s participation (in STF) aims to add substantial value to the festival celebrations attended by large segments of the local, regional and international sectors,” Dr Salim Al Ruzaiqi, its CEO, said, adding: “This is a unique opportunity to enlighten the people through face-to-face interactions, the role of ITA and the progress we have made through several e-government projects.”
