Dr Rawiyah bint Saud Al Busaidiyah added that the Sultanate had taken a lead in this regard through its 'e-government' initiative that encompassed all sectors.
The goal of the pioneering “Oman Digital Society” drive, she said, was to offer people many daily services electronically.
Dr Rawiyah was opening a workshop titled 'Statistical database for higher education in the Sultanate' which is attended by several experts and academics in the field.
She said the ministry was striving to attain a compromise "with these national strategies through transformation into the electronic system to cope with modern developments taking place in the higher education sector."
The workshop, she stressed, was a major step in that direction and aimed at creating a "comprehensive and detailed statistical database for higher education."
Databases would be compiled for each segment of higher education, such as students, academic staff, administrative personnel and graduates, she said.
"This will also help us achieve the aims of higher education-related institutions like Higher Education Council, Accreditation Council and other academic and government institutions," the minister added.
Dr Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Sarmi, Under-secretary at the ministry, said the ministry, in collaboration with the British Council and the Higher Education Statistics Agencies (HESA), United Kindome, had prepared a study on its electronic system and methods of collecting information.
