Sheikh Salim bin Aufait Al Shanfari toured the ITA exhibition and attended the eOman awareness session which was held as part of the ITA’s initiatives to create awareness about ‘Digital Oman’.
The session also provided an update on the mission of ITA and the status of key e-government projects currently in progress.
ITA participates in Khareef Salalah Festival 2007 for the second year and this time around the eOman Awareness Centre is equipped with an internet-connected technology centre that delivers multimedia displays and special awareness session three times a day. One of the sessions is exclusively reserved for women in order to facilitate eOman reach out to them.
Further, the centre is conducting an ongoing electronic survey about the penetration of IT literacy and PCs among the visitors in order to assess their requirements better. Visitors taking part in this survey are automatically eligible for a weekly draw where the winner takes home a high-end laptop computer.
The main aim of these Khareef special eOman activities is to reach out to the public and raise public awareness on use of modern communication technologies and there by encourage them to participate in the creation of a digital nation.
The location of ITA’s stand at the municipality grounds is deservingly the centrespot for attracting a large number of visitors who seek the monsoon weather of Salalah. Visitors are thronging ITA’s exhibition stall to increase their knowledge about the potentials of IT and their role in creating the knowledge society of Oman. This year the response has been tremendous for the awareness sessions and the survey.
“The aim behind our participation in this year’s Khareef Salalah Festival is to introduce Oman Digital Society initiatives carried out by ITA and its favourable impact on public, private institutions and individuals. It also aims to raise awareness of the importance of adapting modern technologies in aspects of our life and highlights the vital role ITA plays in such issues,” says Dr Salim bin Sultan Al Ruzaiqi, CEO of ITA.
“There are several programmes at the ITA stall targeting all different sectors of the society through lectures, seminars, competitions and weekly draws for personal computers,” he added.
As an ambitious project of ITA eOman will offer every citizen, business and government entity a wide variety of convenient, cost-effective and customer-oriented electronic services that will empower and transform life for the better.
The community IT training pilot project of ITA will also make a kick-start in this festival during the first week of August 2007. At this event the first batch of students will start their basic IT training which will enable them to actively pursue the use of e-services and contribute to the creation of a knowledge society through eOman.
ITA, in collaboration with other public agencies, is making great endeavours to an effective government-community-citizen infrastructure that provides better public services to people, resulting in a meaningful information flow between the government and the citizens.
