A UAE paper has said that Dubai is taking the next step in its smart transformation into a city of the future where most services will be delivered on smart phones.
"Dubai Now a new hub for electronic services is a precurser of things to come by 2021. 'Smart Malls' and 'Smart Bus Shelters' were announced on Saturday at the start of Gitex Technology Week. Dubai Now will be the centre for electronic services which will bring together all e-government facilities under one banner" said Khaleej Times in an editorial on Monday.
Other services by different departments are expected to be launched by different departments during the week. A new data law which enables government departments to transfer data to private entities has also been passed. The law will make transfer of knowledge between the private and public sector easier and will do away with legal hurdles that come in the way. Such a law will spur innovation and give rise to a new breed of entrepreneurs who are tech savvy and work quicker online.
Statistics issued by Dubai Smart Government under which all such initiatives are rolled out show its mPay app use has risen by 117 per cent over the last nine months when compared to the same period last year. Transactions also rose 110 percent during this period and were valued at AED230.68 million. There were 455591 transactions till September which beat the AED106.16 million from 217266 transactions over the same period in 2015.
Residents who register can pay their electricity bills on the app. The can also pay traffic fines telephone bills RTA fees and also avail of some Dubai Municipality and Dubai Customs services. This will all come under Dubai Now.
The Dubai-based daily concluded by saying "With this new launch the emirate is setting the stage for the future when the government available to people morning noon or night. And you can access all these services through Dubai Now."
