His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, has issued a law pertaining to the organisation of the Electronic Government Department in the emirate.
Law No.04 for the year 2015 stipulates that the department will enjoy full juridical character and capacity to discharge all legal tasks necessary to realise its objectives.
The main headquarters will be in Sharjah and there may be a decision from the Executive Board to set up branches in other areas of the city.
The law stipulates that the department aims to contribute to building a knowledge based society, through excellence in the government sector in intelligent electronic transformation and to provide creative electronic services, depending on qualified staff and high technology in accordance with the best international standards and to support the development process and renaissance in economic and social affairs in the emirate, in the framework of the country’s sustainable development plans, and to strive with government agencies to achieve the principles of transparency and corporate governance as a criterion to improve the institutional work through the usage of modern technologies of Information, Communication and Multimedia.
The law stipulates a number of terms of reference for the e-Government department of the Emirate of Sharjah in order to achieve its objectives, including the strategies, plans, programmes and e-Government applications and services, including infrastructure construction, development and employment of common standards and technical specifications and to achieve readiness for e-Governments and smart governments as well as establishing and developing the electronic government department and its services effectively, able to provide services between governments, government and business, and individuals, according to the procedures prescribed by the regulations.
The law regulates abolishment of Emiri Decree No.41 of 2009 regarding the establishment of the Information and e-Government department in the Emirate of Sharjah and its amendments.
