The announcement was made on Sunday by the Managing Director (MD) of Dewa, Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, before the media and employees of the departments at Grand Hyatt Hotel in Dubai.
150 apps
Flanked by a number of senior officials, Al Tayer, who is also the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of DEWA, said there are 150 smart services and features available for the customers — “and they are safe and secure.”
“We hope that at this rate, Dubai will be the smartest city in the world within three years with all the services and utilities run by integrated and connected smart systems.
“The achievement supports sustainable development in Dubai, complements the National Agenda launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to raise the profile of Dubai as a global hub for trade, finance, tourism, green economy and sustainability.”
The Acting Chief Information Officer of Dewa, Moza Al Akraf, revealed that customers’ adoption to electronic application is “faster than we have targeted.”
“We had set a target of 60 per cent adoption rate by the year 2017, but as of the end of last year, the rate was at 62 per cent.”
According to Al Tayer, “Dewa’s customers conducted 3.3 million transactions in 2013 through its website and smart app. This helped eliminate the emission of 11,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide that could have resulted from customers travelling to and from Dewa offices. This equates to planting 56,331 trees in an area equivalent to 106 football fields.”
Green bills for 190,000
An official in charge of Customer Service, Abdullah Al Hajeri, said that there are 190,000 customers using green bills.
“All these services have resulted in a 94.3 per cent customer satisfaction rate, a record high on a global level.
Achievement
“The UAE has made a remarkable achievement worldwide in the field of e-Government by advancing from 49th position in 2010 to 28th globally in 2012 in the UN e-Government Survey.”
The agency’s Communications Officer, Khawla Al Mahairi, said, “Dewa is not only a utility for water and electricity, but we also communicate with different segments of society and community, encouraging them to channel to a green style of living.”
