Industry leaders and government ministers from across the Middle East and Africa are meeting today at the Etisalat Academy to share knowledge and research on the impact that ICT development and the Internet is having on regional economies.

The conference, which is entitled 'Driving Development with ICT and the Internet' is being held under the patronage of H.E. Sheikha Lubna Al-Qasimi, Minister of Economy, and will be attended by high profile government delegations from Egypt, Jordan.

The objectives of the Etisalat Academy are to help build a talent pool within the region and to share best practise in the field of telecommunications. This event is a case study example of how we are able to deliver against both of these objectives bringing the leading minds from across the region to deliver their knowledge and experience,' said Dr. Doaa Fares, General Manager Etisalat Academy.

This one-day conference is divided into three sessions, each chaired by a senior industry figure. Amongst the regional panelists scheduled to attend include: H.E. Dr. Tarek Kamel, Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Egypt; H.E. Eng. Basem Rousan, Minister of Information and Communications Technology, Jordan; H.E Salah Salem Bin Omair Al Shamsi, President, Abu-Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and Industry, UAE; H.E. Mohammad Hassan Omran, Chairman at Etisalat; and Dr. Salim Al-Shair, Director, Dubai E-Government.

Mr Talal Abu-Ghazaleh, Chair, ICC Commission on E-Business, IT and Telecoms, Chair, Business Action to Support the Information Society (BASIS) and Chair of the conference said: 'This conference brings the most influential thinkers from around the world to the UAE to share important information and discuss the future development of nations and economies. The Etisalat Academy is the perfect location for such an event, and we are looking forward to a highly productive conference.'

There will also be a significant presence from international organizations including: Guy Sebban, ICC Secretary General, Vice Chair, Business Action to Support the Information Society (BASIS); Sarbuland Khan, Executive Coordinator, UN Global Alliance for ICT and Development (GHAID); Art Reilly, Senior Director of Strategic Technology Policy, Cisco Systems, USA, Joseph Alhadeff, Vice President Global Public Policy and Chief Privacy Officer, Oracle Corporation, USA; Peter Hellmonds, Head of Corporate Social Responsibility, Nokia Siemens Networks, Germany and Karen Northey, Head of Regulatory Asia Pacific, BT Limited, Hong Kong.
