Transforming Government since 2001
All government e-services, from paying traffic fines to getting ID cards, can be done online sitting at home or at a net cafe by next year, a senior official said.

The local government departments will have an electronic link with the federal government and other local governments in the UAE, said Rashed Lahej Al Mansouri, Chairman, Abu Dhabi Systems and Information Committee (ADSIC). He was speaking to Gulf News on the sidelines of the First Inter-Government Working Session to share the progress on its e-government programme.

"Our aim is to transform all possible government services to e-services which can be accessed by the public round-the-clock. The electronic link between the governments and other local entities will help achieve that goal," said Al Mansouri. "A day will come when people can get almost all government services at their own home online. They will not have to visit government offices anymore."

He cited a number of online services available on Abu Dhabi government web site (www.abudhabi.ae) which shows the progress in the e-government programme.

"Paying traffic fines, searching for property with the help of department of social services and commercial buildings, providing online application forms for identity cards and getting a fishing licence are a few of the online services available," he said.

The working session was held under the slogan, "Towards achieving a Service oriented Government" and was attended by representatives of various government departments here.
