Electronic city refers to services provided by the government to the public through the Internet. For instance, job applications, fine paying and inquiries

The Dubai Police Academy’s Administrative Science and Security Studies Institution is conducting a five-day forum on using information technology and the Internet in governance.

More than fifty experts in computer science and information technology are participating in the E-City forum being held in coordination with the Arab Organisation for Administrative Development.

Col. Ahmed Mohamed Rafie, Director, Administrative Science and Security Studies Institution, said, “The forum will discuss technological developments in communications and its impact on planning electronic cities. It will also cover the challenges faced by the Arab world in this regard.”

Nawaf Tibashat, general coordinator of E-City forum, said, “Electronic city refers to services provided by the government to the public through the Internet. For instance, job applications, fine paying and inquiries.”

The forum will address the strategic, technical and economic aspects with regard to the development of an electronic city. Participants will discuss the implementation and benefits of the project.

Rafie said, “The forum is very important because we live now in the time of computer and technology and all of the transactions in the world depend on use of computer and Internet and this forum will provide to the specialists s good environment to discuss the latest development in the technology field and at the end of the forum they will come out of their ideas and recommendation so as to be implement in the Arab world.”

At the end of the forum the scientists will visit the Dubai e-government and the Internet City to get acquaint on Dubai experience in this field.

Tibashat said that because of the development in the technological and the internet field we have to think about how to cope with these technologies so we had made this forum for this purpose.

He added that the forum will discuss several papers but the most important one is the conception of electronic city and it impact on the people.

The forum is divided into three sessions – scientific session, workshops in which the participant will apply what they have learned in the scientific session and third, the roundabout discussion in which they will discuss about the how to spread the electronic city concept in the Arab world.
