The Federal National Council (FNC) received the best Arab Parliament award for its electronic voting system during the last elections.

Dr Mohammad Salem Al Mazroui, Secretary General of the FNC, received the award from Dr Mohammad Ebrahim Al Twaijeri, Assistant Undersecretary of the Arab League and Chairman or the Arab Organisation for Administrative Development.

Dr Al Mazroui told a press conference yesterday at the FNC General Secretary headquarters in Dubai that the FNC has been named the best Arab Parliament for its electronic performance.

"The decision was taken at the 'Parliament and the Electronic Government Conference' which was organised last month by the Arab Organisation for Administrative Development in Alexandria," he said.

He said the conference was organised under the supervision of the Arab League.

The conference was held under the slogan 'Present Practices and Future Aspirations' and attended by 15 Arab countries.

"The Cabinet's announcement on the necessity to switch over to e-government was the main factor that contributed to the FNC's adoption of the meaningful e-programme," he said. The press conference was also attended by Abdul Rahman Al Shamsi, the FNC Assistant General Secretary for FNC Legislative Affairs and Yousuf Al Naqbi, Head of the FNC Information Section in Dubai.
