Deputy Premier and President of the Supreme Council for Education and Training Development HH Shaikh Mohammed bin Mubarak Al Khalifa patronised at the University of Bahrain today the opening ceremony of the fifth International e-Learning Conference, the biggest scientific event to be hosted by the kingdom.
HH Shaikh Mohammed expressed his delight at patronising the Fifth International Conference on e-Learning entitled: "Cognitively informed technology" that includes the announcement of the winners of the GCC Secretariat-General's awards for designing and developing e-courses.
He said that hosting this conference for the fifth time in the Kingdom of Bahrain and the massive participation of international e-learning experts in it confirms the Kingdom's advanced level in the field of e-learning and progress of its technical expertise through preparing digital electronic environment, integrated scientific incubator and qualified cadres in this vital area.
He added that e-learning and education based on innovation and creativity promoted the development process and prepared a qualified generation of citizens in a bid to make them able to deal with the future and envision it in contemporary ways, which, he said, the government is adopting as one of the most optimal investment elements in modern education.
The conference comes within the framework of developing education, training and its initiatives undertaken by Bahrain over the past 10 years and the government's shift towards electronic digital transformation in all areas.
He highlighted that hosting such an important scientific event by the University of Bahrain (UoB) and choosing UoB's e-learning centre as a platform to distribute the GCC Secretariat-General's awards for designing and developing e-courses came in line with GCC leaders' directives. This affirms UoB's vital role in serving the Bahraini society and its active contribution to the educational process through the exchange of expertise, knowledge, research and development, which encourages creativity in the areas of e-learning and represents the future of education.
He expressed thanks to UoB, Zain e-Learning Centre at UoB, Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and the organisers, whishing them further success.
Education Minister Dr. Majid bin Ali Al-Nuaimi pointed out in his speech the quantum leaps achieved by Bahrain in the fields of education in general, and e-learning in particular, through the initiatives of the National Education and Training Reform Project, including King Hamad's Schools of the Future Project.
GCC Secretary-General Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al-Zayani lauded Bahrain's efforts in enhancing joint GCC action on the educational level.
In a statement delivered on his behalf by President of the Human Affairs and Environment at Secretariat General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Dr. Adel bin Khalifa Al-Zayani, GCC chief commended the Kingdom's approach of encouraging e-learning through the launch of UNESCO King Hamad Bin Isa Al-Khalifa Prize for the Use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) in Education.
IEEE Division IV Director Jozef Modelski gave a briefing about IEEE's role at the education industry.
Zain e-Learning Centre screened a short film about e-learning reality in universities and partnerships.
Shaikh Mohammed honoured the sponsors, kenote speakers and the winners of the GCC Secretariat-General's awards for designing and developing e-courses and opened the accompanying exhibition.
The conference brought together 400 international e-learning specialists to address themes affecting e-learning.
The conference sponsors include Majmaah University, Pearson company, Wiley, the IEEE, the e-Government Authority, Zain Bahrain, Bin Hindi, Al-Zayani Commercial Services, the King Abdulaziz University for Science and Technology, Al-Moayyad Group. UoB President Dr. Ibrahim Mohammed Janahi asserted that the biennial conference represented an outstanding regional and international scientific gathering bringing together scientifically acclaimed researchers and experts from all over the world.
HH Shaikh Mohammed bin Mubarak's patronage of the conference adds value to it, and confirms anew the leadership's interest in e-learning which has become a vital field to which all development pillars are related, Dr. Janahi said.
He said that six world prominent e-learning experts will take part in the conference, in addition to over 400 researchers, specialists and academics from about 40 countries.
