The visit, the first of its kind in the world, is a result of the great success of the Civil Service Forum, hosted by the Kingdom in June, 2013, under the auspices of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, with the participation of over 700 participants from 97 countries.
Bahrain was the first country in the Middle East and the fourth across the world to host such an event outside the premises of the UN General Assembly in New York.
CEO of the e-Government Authority (EGA) Mohammed Ali Al-Qaed revealed that UNDESA had submitted a request to EGA to organise the visit to take advantage of its successful experience in the field of e-government, emphasising that the visit proves the distinguished position enjoyed by the King and the International Community's trust in it.
He expressed the Kingdom of Bahrain's pride in UN confidence, and readiness to support countries in the field of e-government.
He added that Bahrain's milestone strides in public service and e-government and the UN's appreciation of its experience are the outcome of the sound directives of the wise leadership to provide easy and fast services to the citizens through developing government performance and enhancing transparency, paying special tribute to the High Committee for Information and Communications Technology, chaired by Deputy Premier Shaikh Mohammed bin Mubarak Al Khalifa.
During the one-week visit, from Jan. 26 to Feb. 1, the delegation will make intensive visits to various ministries in order to be informed about their pioneering e-government initiatives and projects through video presentations.
He added that the delegation would be informed about Bahrain's ICT experiences and expertise, praised widely by UN reports in which the kingdom ranked seventh in the world in e-services.
