Bahrain will adopt a system of e-registration for pilgrims from the next Haj season to facilitate and speed up work of Haj caravans.

Head of Haj and Umra at the Ministry of Justice and Islamic Affairs, Shaikh Abdulnasser Abdullah, told the press on Monday that e-registration started last season on a trial basis, however, from the coming season it would be fully activated.

The registration would be available through the e-government portal, he said, adding that the system had been tested and modified to achieve objectives. Authorised caravans would be given passwords to access the system and register their pilgrims from their offices. “The good thing about the system is that it would automatically close down when a caravan exceeds its limit of number of pilgrims and after the end of the deadline for registration,” he explained.

Each caravan is allowed to carry a minimum of 50 pilgrims to the holy cities in Saudi Arabia, while the maximum number of pilgrims they can carry ranges between 150 to 300. The number could increase in special cases.

“The system would enable us to have clear data about Bahrain’s pilgrims and it would be easy for us to track them in case of eventuality as we would have all details about them,” he said.

Besides the system, those who want to perform Haj next season could go through a special section in the portal to get information about all registered Haj caravans.
