Transforming Government since 2001
The Kingdom's health sector is to undergo a major upgrade with the introduction of a new database system which will ensure that patients' files can be accessed from any government hospital in the Kingdom.

This project, which was discussed yesterday by the Cabinet, will ensure greater efficiency and professionalism in the health sector and will guarantee patients better quality healthcare.

The Interior and Health ministries, as well as the Central Informatics Organisation and the e-Government Authority have been tasked with conducting a study on how such a system can be put in place as soon as possible. The authorities are to also seek the assistance of international experts in relation to this project.

During a meeting of the Cabinet yesterday, ministers also discussed the progress of the King Hamad General Hospital which is to begin operating in the near future.

Discussing the importance of this new hospital to Bahrain's health sector, Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa stated that the hospital must be run in accordance with the most modern administrative procedures and must be equipped with the latest technology.

Speaking at the cabinet meeting, the Prime Minister yesterday also instructed the authorities to take strict action against any civil service employees found to be involved in acts that harm national interests and he stated that the upcoming elections must be carried out with utter transparency and impartiality.

The Cabinet stated that the large number of candidates who registered for the polls reflects an eagerness to participate in the democratic process.
