The first National Global Alliance for ICT and Development (GAID) of the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA) seminar was aimed at accelerating the achievement of the eCenter for Millennium Development Goals.
The seminar concluded with several significant recommendations for the implementing the millennium development goals (MGDs) set by the United Nations using ICT tools and modern communication technology.
The eGovernment Authority, in its capacity as a leader in the ICT field will establish a capacity building center for developing Arab countries and Africa. The center will be a training and consultancy center based in Bahrain that will assist various countries based on their needs and requirements, helping them achieve the MDGs.
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Bahrain proposed to draft a country template for the Kingdom of Bahrain and other countries to help in the implementation of the MDGs in each country.
Another recommendation of the seminar was to align the MDGs with Bahrain’s Vision of 2030 through a proposal to the Economic Development Board that aligns the MDGs with the Vision 2030 goals.
Once achieved this exemplary model to be showcased as a model for other countries to follow.
“We should learn from Bahrain’s pioneering experience when setting the strategic goals by taking the exemplary model of Bahrain’s Economic Vision 2030,” said Talal Abu Ghazaleh, chairman of GAID.
“The strategic vision that could provide the world with a model in setting national plans which exceed millennium goals. Bahrain will become a model to other countries in that field via its economic development vision 2030,” he added.
Mohammed Ali Al Qaed, the eGovernment Authority CEO, stated: “The MDGs consist in targeted objectives undertaken by governments and to be achieved by 2015. This seminar is an added value to the countries and governments’ efforts in accelerating our pace towards the achievement of these goals by making use of ICT.”
He added: “Bahrain can play a prominent in supporting the development of the role and usage of ICT for the purpose of contributing in achieving local and international development through its pioneer experience in the field of eGovernment and its membership in GAID.”
