The e-centre is to be established by Bahrain's e-Government Authority under funding by the UN. In its capacity as a leader in the ICT field the authority will establish the Capacity Building Centre for Developing Arab Countries and Africa which will be a training and consultancy centre that will assist various countries based on their needs and requirements. The centre will serve as a 'one-stop shop' providing governments in the region with vital resource and development assistance.
Commenting on the seminar, Chairman of the Global Alliance for ICT and Development (GAID), Talal Abu Ghazaleh, praised the Kingdom's achievements in the ICT field as well as its efforts to reach the Millennium Development Goals. He added that if all the studies and proposals are approved, the centre will be launched and become operational in March 2011, while a second more advanced version of the centre will be launched in early 2012. "We should learn from Bahrain's pioneering experience when setting strategic goals by taking the exemplary model of Bahrain's Economic Vision 2030 - a strategic vision that could provide the world with a model in setting national plans which exceed Millennium Goals. Bahrain will become a model to other countries in that field via its economic development vision."
CEO of the e-Government Authority, Mohammed Ali Al Qaed, added: "The MDGs consist in targeted objectives undertaken by governments to be achieved by 2015. This seminar is an added value to the countries' and governments' efforts in accelerating our pace towards the achievement of these goals by making use of ICT." "Mr. Abu Ghazaleh's pioneering vision that focuses on the usage of technology has lead the way in making this technology available to all people and not limited to a small category of people...
The Kingdom of Bahrain can play a prominent role in supporting the development of ICT for the purpose of contributing to local and international development through its pioneering experience in the field of e-Government and its membership in GAID."
