Bahrain will share its e-governance experience at a major international forum in Italy.

Cabinet Affairs Minister Shaikh Ahmed bin Ateyatala Al Khalifa has assigned e-Government Authority chief executive officer Mohammed Al Qaed to attend the International e-Government Forum in Italy. It is hosted for officials that manage the Italian e-Government Authority programme.

Bahrain received an invitation from the Italian Public Administration Institute (SSPA) to present the kingdom's e-government strategy in the two-day forum, which will be held in Rome and attended by government officials, managers and chief executive officers from Italian ministries and government departments like the council of ministers, Public Administration Ministry, the Italian Centre for Innovation and Training, the General Italian IT Association, and the Italian IT Centre.

The forum will also be attended by UN officials and academics.

Shaikh Ahmed said Bahrain's participation in the forum is based on the guidance of Deputy Prime Minister and Supreme Commit-tee of Infor-mation and Commun-ication Techno-logy chairman Shaikh Mohammed bin Mubarak Al Khalifa, on the need to adopt international indices, including the UN e-government index, to measure the efficiency and success of the e-government programme in the kingdom.

This, he said, enables Bahrain to compete internationally and offer the world an exemplary e-government programme.

"At the guidance of Shaikh Mohammed bin Mubarak Al Khalifa, we adopted advanced international indices to evaluate our performance in the area of e-government.

"We do not compare and measure our experience against the experiences of the countries of the region only, but we also benefit from leading international experiences. And this has led us to implement an ambitious strategy putting the kingdom in line with other developed countries in such a short time."

Shaikh Ahmed said that the kingdom's strong and strategic relations with international organisations and establishments like the Global Alliance for ICT and Development (GAID), the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA), and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).

"Due to these successful steps, Bahrain was recognised by international organisations to speak about our experience such as GAID, in which Mr Al Qaed represents the kingdom," he said.

Shaikh Ahmed said that Mr Al Qaed was assigned to deliver a presentation on the national e-government strategy, the components of the Bahraini programme, the future projects, the achievements of the programme in a record time, and the challenges the kingdom faced in implementing the e-government programme.

Al Qaed will review Bahrain's e-government experience at the forum, which will also see presentations from other countries like Belgium, Denmark, and the US, as well as UNDESA and OECD.

This will help the Italian government formulate a clear vision and identify the points of strength and weakness while it implements its e-government programme.

Mr Al Qaed will also participate in a workshop to come out with a visual of the best methods utilised by other countries experiences to implement in the e-government programme especially the Italian experience by benefiting from the experience of other participating countries.
