The agreement was signed by Mohammed Al Qaed, CEO of the eGA and Stefan Moraes, Managing Director of Third Wave International, which recently established its regional headquarters in Bahrain after seeing the potential for the information and communications technology (ICT) sector in the Kingdom and the emphasis placed on developing this field in its policies and overall strategies, in accordance with the Bahrain 2030 Vision.
“The Mobile Portal affirms Bahrain’s position as a leader in the Middle East region’s ICT sector,” said Al Qaed. “We intend to carry on with our mission enable the improvement of our ICT infrastructure and continue to develop a business-friendly environment for foreign direct investment in ICT and other knowledge-based sectors.”
Through the Mobile Portal, anyone with a mobile phone – regardless of its make or model - will be able interact with the various Government entities and use their services using simple easy-to-use SMS interface. A version of the eGovernment National Portal designed specifically for use in mobile devices equipped with an internet browser. The Mobile Portal will avail 10 basic government services upon launch, and 50 by the end of the year.
“The project is a critical milestone for us as it will complement the eGovernment National Portal and extend the reach of eServices to a much broader base of users and help improve the quality of life for all of Bahrain’s citizens, residents, businesses, and visitors,” Al Qaed continued.
In addition to the eGovernment National Portal and Mobile Government, the eGA also plans on rolling out two supplementary channels - National Call Center and Common Service Centers – in order to provide comprehensive and convenient multi-channel access to government services to everyone in Bahrain.
