They are currently operational in the arrival hall and will soon be commissioned in the departure hall, the Supreme Committee for Information and Communication Technology (SCICT) heard yesterday.
The system will speed up flow through the airport, it was reported at the meeting, chaired by Deputy Premier Shaikh Mohammed bin Mubarak Al Khalifa.
The committee, which was reviewing Bahrain's e-government programme, was also attended by Deputy Premier Shaikh Ali bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, Premier's Court Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa, Finance Minister Shaikh Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Khalifa and Cabinet Affairs Minister Shaikh Ahmed bin Atteyatalla Al Khalifa.
Transactions totalling more than BD1 million have taken place via the e-government portal since its launch in May last year, the committee heard.
These include paying electricity bills, traffic fines, university registration payments and Central Population Registration fees.
There are now 41 e-government services, with more on the way, including tourism, library and other services, the committee heard. The committee has decided to create working groups within all ministries to speed up e-government services' expansion.
