Bhubaneswar Smart City Limited's Board of Directors met to discuss and approve ambitious plans for urban governance and infrastructure enhancement. Key initiatives include expanding the 24x7 'SaharSathi' call centre, deploying AI-enabled CCTV cameras, and improving public spaces with sustainable practices. The focus remains on citizen-first development, aiming to make Bhubaneswar a benchmark for smart urban living.

The state govt on Tuesday held a crucial meeting of the Board of Directors of Bhubaneswar Smart City Limited (BSCL) to discuss and devise the ongoing and upcoming development plans for Bhubaneswar.

Chaired by Anu Garg, development commissioner-cum-additional chief secretary, the meeting outlined ambitious plans to enhance urban governance and infrastructure through cutting-edge technology and sustainable practices.

The meeting, attended by key officials, including Surendra Kumar, additional chief secretary, and Usha Padhee, principal secretary, housing & urban development department, focused on reviewing the progress of major smart city projects and approving new initiatives aimed at improving the quality of life for residents.

A highlight of the meeting was the successful implementation of the ‘SaharSathi’ 24X7 call centre, a toll-free service (1929) launched by BSCL, which now extends its support to all urban local bodies (ULBs) across Odisha.

The board also reviewed the deployment of 3,000 AI-enabled CCTV cameras, adaptive traffic signal systems, and a comprehensive city-wide public address system. These technological advancements are set to bolster urban safety, enhance women’s security, and improve mobility through real-time monitoring.

In a move towards sustainable urban development, the board approved the enhancement of Janpath, including the replacement of bamboo fencing with durable MS iron grills, integrating urban planning elements to make the area more citizen-friendly.

Further, the smart city mission will prioritise solar energy adoption, rooftop rainwater harvesting, and the creation of child-friendly public spaces. The board emphasised the importance of accessible clean public toilets and well-maintained parks.

Anu Garg lauded BSCL’s efforts in fostering innovation and digital governance, urging continuous dedication to citizen-first urban governance. She reiterated the govt’s commitment to establishing Bhubaneswar as a beacon of inclusivity, resilience, and technological advancement.

“As Bhubaneswar Smart City Limited forges ahead with these initiatives, the city is poised to set a benchmark in smart urban living, promising a future that is both sustainable and technologically advanced,” said Garg.
